My baby isn't a baby anymore... good thing I'm growing another one!

It is hard to believe my baby just turned TWO!  I have mixed emotions about this aging process...

Despite the warnings that time would fly, I still feel blindsided.  I no longer have a baby; Emma has become an amazing spirited, loving, funny little person who fills my days with love and laughter.

Although her stature is small, her personality is quite the opposite.

Emma loves to narrate life and rarely stops talking.  Surprisingly, or not, to those who know her verbose parents, she has the verbal acuity of a three year old.  Emma regularly communicates in 6-10 word sentences.  This morning she said, "Emma want go downstairs and eat breakfast, mmm, 'licious breakfast."  Her use of descriptive adjectives and correct use of pronouns continues to impress me as she carries on complete conversations with me.  She has made me acutely aware of phrases I never realized I say.  And I just love that she can't yet say some blends, so she says cute things like, "No sanks, Momma."

It is obvious to me that music and movement runs through her little veins.  Emma keeps the beat when she claps or shakes her maracas and adores any instrument, which is not that surprising since I come from a musical family.  She also loves to dance and manipulate her body, again not surprising because Erik comes from a family of dancers.

My proudest mommy moments, however, occur when people comment on what a sweet girl Emma is.  Whether it is the spontaneous hugging of her friends or her emphatically telling me, " I love YOU, mommy," while we are out grocery shopping, this little lady is full of God's love.  When I rock her before bed, she requests "Jesus songs" and needs her "Jesus books" in her crib.  What a gift God gave us when He bestowed this beautiful baby upon us.

Although Emma is excited for a brother or sister to arrive in the summer, I find myself in tears as I wonder how I will possibly love the new baby as much as I do the extraordinary child who is my Emma.
                                                                           Silly girl!

Thumbs and Toes

Well, my smiling little doll has found her thumbs and her toes- in that order.

Sucking her thumb (either one, she's not picky) has become Emma's new favorite hobby.
And to be perfectly honest, I don't mind one bit.  In fact, I daresay it is pretty stinkin' cute!

And the thumbs deserve a thumbs-up for a couple of reasons- number one on the list being that they single-handedly (well, really double-handedly) helped us survive the long car ride to SC for Robin's wedding and the subsequent routineless days of napping in strange places and being handled by strange people.  What a trooper!

Oh, and let's not forget that what goes down must come up- yes, there was also a return trip back to PA.  It was during this 12 hour trip that Miss Emma discovered she could grab those wiggly little digits at the end of her feet, which provided for entertainment during the few hours that our exhausted little girl wasn't sleeping.

Oh, digits, how I love thee...

Advanced Little Emma

Well, I thought when Emma rolled over at eight weeks it was a fluke.  And maybe it was....But today was no fluke.  My advanced daughter rolled over twice from tummy to back.  I checked the baby milestone chart and confirmed what I already knew....My child is gifted!  Some of her other talents include bearing weight on her legs, batting toys repeatedly, blowing bubbles, and cooing.  I imagine she will be walking and talking any day now;)

Erik and I are really starting to get into the swing of this parent thing and are really enjoying the fact that Emma has started sleeping anywhere from 6-8 hours. In a row!!!

Who knew such small accomplishments could bring such joy...oh yeah, all of you who are parents know exactly the joy I speak of.

More bragging to come....
